Hope - A New Year's resolution

Every year I do my usual anti New Year's resolution. I list the things that I will do during the year, rather than the things I will give up. This year is no different. I do not intend to give up eating cake (what lunatic would, cake is fantastic, it still will be next year!) or chocolate (c'mon, if I've got a heartbeat I'll be eating chocolate). But I do intend to fill my year with dance and laughter, with comic books and video games, with writing projects and friends, with love and passion and most of all with hope. Hope for the future and everything it can bring. Hope that the good outweighs the bad, that the sheep aren't wolves, that the ambitions and dreams aren't too big and that my one day will be some day soon. Hope that each step I take this year brings me closer to the goal (we all have a goal, don't lie couch potatoes, you all know you want that couch toilet invented and mass produced) and that my happiness does not fade, no matter what bumps I may find on the road... So that's my happy New Year's thought, I'm done with the mush now, back to zombie slaying and throwing teens in the woodchipper... until that's published though, I'll leave you with this... Happy New Year and here's to a mind blowing one next year (when the zombie apocalypse will hit and we can finally make use of our video game practised headshots)

The thought lingered in the back of a crowded mind
Like a ping of sound, a flash of light, it breathed
The feeling bubbled below the surface, swallowed deep
Nothing hurts like a deep sense of pride.

Trusting hands opened, life trickled out like tendrils
A welcome release, with nothing left to lose
The feeling was new, something like hope, something quite pure
Nothing hurts like giving up on trust.

Picked and pulled the heart came out of the shell in one piece
Softer than it thought, fresher than it could’ve hoped
The feeling came through, caught fire and burned the bridges down
Nothing helps like opening your eyes

One more chance, one more dance, one more flight, just one more
Until the next dalliance, chase the rush down
The feeling’s like a piece of bliss, take a chunk, put it in your pocket

Nothing helps like taking a deep breath
